While this is not clear (see e.g. the LZW patent, which seems to be a valid  
European patent and notice also "For the patent "Method for Identifying  
Subscribers and for Generating and Verifying Electronic Signatures in a Data  
Exchange System" by Claus P. Schnorr (US patent number 4,995,082, filed  
23.02.90, granted 19.02.91) Mr Schnorr claims to have world-wide patent  
rights."), at least with the needed parts there are no problems, because 1) no  
european patent exists and 2) this work has been published a long time ago  
(making it no longer patentable in Europe IMHO).
